Narrow Gauge Story 2
GWP – Graham Whistler and Gordon Rushton
Those of you who have Narrow Gauge Story Volume 1 will know how good this program is. However, NGS2 has a big advantage – there’s a 16minute session on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, covering New Jalpaiguri to Kurseong (including some really good shots of steam through the Siliguri bazaar). This was filmed on the 2009 tour to the line organised for the Royal Photographic Society and covers much of the record-breaking run from Siliguri to Darjeeling in a day at a cracking pace. The remainder of the two hour long dvd covers a wide variety of narrow gauge systems from around the world, including the new Welsh Highland , New Zealand’s Kingston Flyer, the Ravenglass, Mallorca and Austria.
All the DHR footage was filmed by Graham Whistler, who is one of the committee of the Digital Imaging Group of the Royal Photographic Society – and he knows very precisely what he’s doing with a video camera. Recommended!

A Journey to the Rooftop of the World by Vfx Design
At the height of the British Raj in the late 19 century, Franklin Prestage, Agent of the East Bengal Railway, proposed what many thought was impossible - a track running from the humid plains of Siliguri to the alpine heights of Darjeeling.Over a hundred years later the famous 'Toy Train' is still running up the Himalayas to the same destination, following the same ingenious loops and zigzags. Tough threatened with closure on numerous occasions the line has now been granted 'World Heritage' status, thus guaranteeing it a secure future. This programme takes you on a journey like no other, in which two histories are forever intertwined. A journey of mystery and romance whose ascent reveals an ever-changing landscape and people. A journey which ends in a place reminiscent of the mythical Shangrila... The ideal DVD to convince your 'Better-half' to accompany you to Darjeeling...60 minutes PAL FormatPost and Packing UK £1.00, EU £2.00, Int'l £2.50
