Landslide 2012

Paghlajhora Landslide - report by Fuzz (Peter Jordan)  - 11th January 2012

Strictly speaking, the breach is about a kilometre south of Paglajhora, and is enormous, about a kilometre long. By any definition, this was a major rockfall, The good news is that repairs are progressing and there is a firm of road surface for all but the last 150 metres, which will be the most difficult to repair. Of the rebuilt road, about a quarter has been reinforced by gabions on the uphill side, with much of the loose scree above that contained under sacking.  The bad news is that the mountainside above that looks extremely unstable, and some locals are reported as saying that the contractor believes that a further monsoon fall is likely.
